I can't believe there's only one more week to go!
I'm in the process of finishing up my research project that I had explained in the previous blog. We have had some difficulty in getting patients before they are going into total hip replacement surgery, but all of Dr. Lane's patients during clinics have been great volunteers.
During my last week at clinical immersion, I would like to experience different departments. I have signed up for some time in the medical intensive care unit, the department, and OB. Details about those experience shall come in the next blog!
This week I also got to have a little experience in cardiothoracic surgery with Dr. Gerardi. The patient was a male in need of a triple coronary bypass surgery. They took the cephalic vein from the patient's right leg to use as a graft to the heart (they needed to graft three in total) . The surgery was very intense and amazing to experience. There were no serious complications in the surgery, and it was a unique experience to see the human body almost completely open on the surgery table.
