This week I spent most of my time on a new project, while still got the chance to join a morning meeting in OB and a research meeting of Dr. Scherr's lab. As I mentioned in last week's blog, I am done with updating the information of 60 RARC patients in order to report the outcome and complication after the surgeries. Therefore, I have moved on to a new project for prostate cancer, which involves patient medical history research.
We have a list of patients who had prostate biopsy due to elevated PSA values. These patients will be followed-up for 12 months and 24 months clinically, so researchers can have a statistics that shows whether PSA is a good indicator for prostate cancer. The research team is also working on developing a chip that can detect suspected biomarker of prostate cancer in urine, which may be able to replace PSA as a early stage prostate cancer detector in the future.
In terms of clinic, I went to OB meeting on Thursday morning. Besides presenting problems and possible treatments of patients, the doctors also had a discussion of CP (Cerebral palsy). I really appreciate the chance to join this kind of meeting whic offers me the chance to learn valuable knowledge from those experience doctors.
Next week I will keep working on my project, shadow in Neonatal ICU and observe a cardiothoracic surgery. I am really excited for the upcoming week, and hope to learn as much as possible before heading back to Ithaca.
